SRAM Hydraulic Road Brakes Recall

Recalled: SRAM's Red hydraulic rim and disc brakes

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, SRAM has voluntarily issued a safety recall on its 2014 model-year Road Hydraulic Brake Systems because the hydraulic seal material can fail, resulting in the abrupt loss of brake power and the inability to safely stop the bicycle. Shown above are the recalled SRAM Red Road Rim (left) and Road Disc brakes.

What to do
Study the 3 photos here and read the details below to identify if you have the recalled SRAM brakes. If you do, SRAM requests that anyone who has a bike equipped with SRAM Hydraulic Disc or Hydraulic Rim Brakes stop using the bike immediately (or if you purchased the brakes separately, to stop using them).

Identifying the recalled brakes
SRAM is recalling the entire production run (25,350 systems). All products shipped to date, and currently in the market or in inventory are being recalled. Products were sold between May 2013 to December 2013 both separately and on complete bicycles. Shown below are the recalled SRAM S700 Road Rim (left) and Road Disc brakes.

The remedy

If you have one of the recalled road hydraulic brake systems, please stop riding it immediately and return it to the point of purchase or your nearest authorized SRAM retailer to arrange for a free cable-operated system to be installed, and to receive a $200 product voucher or cash for the price difference between systems.

The voucher can then be used along with the cable-operated system when the hydraulic system becomes available at a later date.
